The Workshop Experience

Replicating the experience of being on an assignment for a magazine such as LIFE, we will work together to overcome your fears, cast a subject, earn access to the life of that subject, and to make evocative images to construct a photographic essay.

My workshops are about photography. They're also about learning to collaborate with your subject, to open your heart, and to fully embrace the wonderful serendipitous moments in everyday life. They're about being present, through the art of photography.

While the schedule is designed to be fluid and spontaneous, a "typical" week consists of a review of my own work (to serve as a launching point), discussions about what it means to photograph people and to build an essay, ample time for photographing our respective projects, group reviews led by me of the work produced from each day, and a guest speaker from the photography community. The week concludes with a group show of everyone's work and a dinner at a local restaurant - where we can all celebrate and discuss our own, personal next steps.
